# Connect Inkbox to Claude and ChatGPT

Inkbox inboxes connect to Claude and ChatGPT through Multi Mail, each with an API key scoped to that inbox.

## Connect it

1. Sign in to the Inkbox Console at [inkbox.ai](https://inkbox.ai/console), open API keys and choose New API key.
2. Name it Lumman, and under Scope choose this inbox's identity - an Admin (all) key does not open a mailbox.
3. Choose Create API key and copy the key. Inkbox shows it once - leave that page open until Lumman asks for it.

4. [Add to Claude](https://claude.ai/directory/connectors/multi-mail) - Opens claude.ai - press Connect there.
5. Sign in, add your Inkbox inbox and approve Claude in the window Claude opens - choose Another mailbox, type the address and paste the API key when it asks.

## Reach and limits

- Search and read it together with every other mailbox you add.
- Draft, reply, forward and send from it.
- Archive and bin its mail, and clean up its inbox by sender, putting back what a clean-up moved.
- Multi Mail reaches no filters or vacation responder at Inkbox.
- Inkbox keeps its own six folders - inbox, archive, sent mail, drafts, spam and bin - and makes no label of yours.
- Each API key opens one inbox. Connect another inbox with its own key.

## If it refuses

- Inkbox refused this key. Use an API key scoped to this inbox's identity, not an Admin (all) key, and check the address.
- We could not reach Inkbox's mail server. Try again.

## Technical details

- Receiving: imap.inkboxmail.com, port 993
- Sending: smtp.inkboxmail.com, port 587
- Login: Your whole address and the API key
- Check: Both servers accept the password before the mailbox is added
- Stored: The API key, encrypted under a key held outside the database
- Mail: No copy kept - read from the mailbox on each call
- Removing it: Disconnecting deletes our copy of the API key, which works until you revoke it in the Inkbox Console under API keys.
